Discussion of issues

Issue 1: OUR PROBLEM

Tina: We discussed what our problem should be and decided we are going to write about the

recognition of Slovenia. Because two of our group members are not from Slovenia, we will

focus on the way they see us, Slovenians, what are the stereotypes about Slovenians in their

countries (Poland and Spain). We will also be interested what Slovenia with its organizations

(like for example Slovenian Tourist Board etc.) is doing in order to be more recognized. For a

country it is important that it has its own identity and image. Does Slovenia have them?

Definition of our problem, research questions and sources (here in Word file)

DEFINITION

Slovenia is a very young country and that is one of the reasons it has not yet formed its identity and

image. The consequence is that it is not recognized in the world. Foreigners not only do not know much

about it, they often mistaken it with Slovakia or cannot find it on the map.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1. For what is Slovenia known in Spain?

2. For what is Slovenia known in Poland?

3. How is Slovenia presented on the internet sites of the biggest foreign medium houses?

4. In what kind of way is Slovenia trying to form its own identity?

5. What are the strategies of Slovenia (its institutions, organizations) to be more recognized in the

world?

6. What are the symbols and its meaning Slovenia is using?

7. On what qualities should Slovenia built its identity?

8. Which attributes are other countries known for?

9. Why is Slovenia attractive for the foreign students - why do young people decide for study in

Slovenia?

10. How would the members of our group represent Slovenia in their own country?

11. With what is Slovenia destroying its image in foreign countries?

Vida Zorko:Well done. One thing that you still need to do is to state explicitly who will find answers to which two questions. You have a clear and pleasing page :-)
Nuria Serrano:I think that is very interesting the team about the identity and image of Slovenia because each country need to have a identity a image and try to promote to the rest of the countries.
