Internet slang, Internet language, Netspeak or chatroom shorthand, is slang that is used on intetrnet and internet related things (like mobile phones...). Such terms typically originated with the purpose of saving keystrokes, and many people use the same abbreviations in other text messages, not just on internet. The terms often appear in lower case, with capitals reserved for emphasis; for example, the pronoun "I" often appears simply as "i". People also use "u" to mean "you," and "r" to mean "are." Also, much of the time people do not use apostrophes or punctuation at all. Besides that, there are many phrases that are used on internet and have special meanings. To name just few of them: lol, omg, wtf...
In our group we will try to find the reasons why people are using that kind of language, if they do so and how, in which situations are they using internet slang (on chatrooms, forums, msn, sms or even in real life - in everyday speech). One of the questions is also how often are they using that kind of language and with whom (only friends on internet or maybe with family etc.)
1. Do students know what the terms "lol", "rofl", "wtf", "brb" ... mean? /Are they familiar with the terms?
2. Do students know any slovenian internet terms?
3. Do students use any slovenian internet terms?
4. Do students know any english internet terms?
5. Do students use any english internet terms?
6. Do students use such terms in everyday life?
7. Where did students first met with that kind of language?
8. Which terms are most frequently used?
9. What effect will have the internet slang on everyday's language?
10. How come that the internet terms are so "global"?
